Green Roofs are serious business, their cost makes them so. They need to be installed correctly, and if a Green Roof does not drain properly it
will lead to premature failure of the waterproofing membrane. The problem is no one knows if it is not draining properly until it is too late.
If you thought the Green Roof was expensive when it was put on wait until it is removed and reinstalled. Enclosing a drain in perforated stainless
steel will prevent the drain from operating properly, and very quickly due to the S/S plugging with Green Roof debris. The Drainage mat must flow
directly to the drain and the drain enclosure must be a secondary drainage path to maintain proper drainage of the Green Roof. Don’t be responsible
for specifying a Green Roof enclosure that will cause premature failure of the waterproofing membrane.

The "Froet Black Box" for Advanced Green Roof, Drain Protection and Access
The above picture shows a green roof box in a green roof that is about 18" deep
This ia a picture of the same project with different media
This picture shows a closed green roof box in a gravel portion of the green roof
Stainless steel green roof box assembled with S/S hard rivets throughout and Aluminum heel proof grading top
This box was custom done for a North Carolina University to be used in the walkways of green roofs
Stainless steel green roof box with stainless steel top and assembled with S/S hard rivets throughout
This box was custom done for the same University and used in the vegetation area of the green roof
The above drawing illustrates an intensive roof where the IRMA guard is surrounded by gravel. The IRMA guard is is open at the top so when the
perforated stainless steel becomes plugged the roof will be able to drain over the guard
This drawing illustrates an extensive green roof where the majority of the drainage water flows through the drainage mat. So if the green roof
box were to ever become plugged the roof will still be able to drain. The probably of green roof box becoming blocked is very low due to the
design. In this design the box serves as protection for the drain and does not serve as the primary path for the drainage water.
